CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle-touch therapy that helps calm your nervous system, following your body's lead to release tension, supporting its inherent ability to heal itself.
What is the CranioSacral System?
Just like every person has a heartbeat and breath they can feel, it is also possible to feel the body’s internal semi-closed hydraulic system called the CranioSacral System.
An important function of this system is the production, circulation and reabsorption of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). This fluid is responsible for:
Bringing micronutrients and water to the brain
Cushioning the brain
Removing waste products
Providing buoyancy
CSF is created in the brain’s ventricles and it circulates down through the spinal cord and throughout our bodies.
Normally, the CSF within the body produces a continuous rise and fall of fluid pressure within the CranioSacral System as it circulates 6-10 cycles per minute. However, due to experiences in life, including disease, accidents, trauma, disorders, and stress, to name a few, the rhythm can get disturbed in different parts of the body.
A Craniosacral Therapist uses light touch to feel a client’s CranioSacral Rhythm and determine where it may not be ‘free flowing.’ Then, with that same light touch, the therapist may apply 5 grams of pressure (or less), inviting the client’s body to heal itself in that area.
